Retired 1st SGT Ken E. HensleyNovember 2, 1933 ~ November 13, 2017 (age 84)
Graveside service for Kenneth Eugene Hensley, 84, will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, at First Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Mendle Baker and the Rev. John Steele officiating. Visitation will follow the service in First Calvary Baptist Church chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Food Pantry at First Calvary Baptist Church 2320 Cedar Grove Rd, Leesville, SC 29070.
Mr. Hensley passed away Monday, November 13, 2017. Born in Mars Hill, NC he was a son to the late Eli Coleman and Ella Crawford Hensley. He was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church and was in the Truth Seekers SS Class. Mr. Hensley retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of service and retired from Glaxo SmithKline. He served in Vietnam for 2 years, was stationed in occupied Germany, and was a Combat Medic. Mr. Hensley received 2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with DVC (Awarded by South Vietnamese Government), Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Army of Occupation Medal, Combat Medic Badge, and Meritorious Service Medal.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Hensley; son, Coleman (Melissa) Hensley; daughter, Ella (John) Shuler; step-son, Joey (Ellie) Stone; brother, Jerry Hensley; sisters, Eula Robinson, Ann Boyd, Irene Waites, and Vava Metcalf; granddaughter, Misty Shuler (Randall) Brown; and 3 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Otis and J. G. Hensley; sister, Verlon Metcalf; and grandson, John Cole Shuler.
