Ruby Jewel Hughes

-On December 16th our precious mother answered Jesus’ call to come home.  Ruby “Jewel” Hughes was born on January 22, 1924, to the late Walter & Shirley Spires Wages.  She was predeceased by her first husband, Clarence Watford, in 1951 and by her second husband,  Darney L. Hughes, in 1981.

 Jewel is survived by children, Shirley Cotton (Tommy); Jimmy Watford (Judy); Perry Watford (Bonnie); Sarah Skipper (Charles); Cathy Wingard (Larry) and step children; Vera Bolin (Mack) and Glenda Brittian (John).  She is also survived by numerous grands, great grands and great-great grands.  She was predeceased by her sisters, Ethel Sulton; Willie Mae Brazell; and brother Walter Wages Jr. She retired as canteen director from Food Service, Inc. Visitation will be 10:00-10:45 AM, Monday, December 18th at Congaree Baptist Church, 101 Pine Ridge Dr. followed by service at 11:00 AM conducted by Rev. Jerry Broughton with burial at Lybrand Cemetery immediately following the service.

A special thank you to Senior Primary Care, especially Dr. Craig Maylath and Dr. Curry, to the nursing staff at PHR 9 east and Palmetto Health Hospice for their loving care.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Judes Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tn 38105.
