Willie Mae Steele, 95 of Lexington, SC passed at home surrounded by her family on June 11, 2026. Willie Mae was born on May 27,1931 to Claude E. Taylor and Rita Mae Taylor, in Red Bank, SC.
Willie Mae is survived by her sons, Wayne Steele, Gene Ray Steele, Bruce Steele, and Karl Steele; daughter, Darlene Coursey; grandchildren, Dale Steele, Melissa Steele, Jeremy Brooks, Eric Brooks, Mark Steele, Denise Quarles, Clayton Steele, Jasper Steele, Laci Lybrand, Stephanie Steele, Brittany Steele, Ray Steele, Nathen Owens, Krista Coursey, Amy Coursey, Tiffiney Gunter, Brandi Bulock, Kayla Steele, and Patrick Steele; 29 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and sisters in law, Pat, Maude and Dottie Taylor.
Willie Mae was predeceased by her husband, Charles Richard Steele; her parents, Claude E. Taylor and Rita Mae Taylor; her brothers, Frank, Walter (JW), John, and Leonard; her sisters, Lois and Ruth; her children, Tommy Steele and Barbara Brooks.
Willie Mae worked at Horsemen Doll, Monroe Calculator Plant, and Lexington School District One as a housekeeper where she retired.
Special thanks to her devoted in-home caregiver, Sue Steele, for her tireless dedication, patience, companionship and exceptional care over the last 14 months allowing Willie Mae to remain comfortable at home. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated nurses and staff at Agape Hospice, especially Candy Payne, Jennifer Miller, Latoya Harris, Mark Thomason and Amy for their exceptional support, kindness and dignity provided during Willie Mae's final days. We also want to thank Joann Shealy, Bryan Keisler, and Audrey McCormack for your love and support.
Funeral service will be held 2pm Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at Barr-Price Funeral Homes and Crematorium Lexington Chapel. Burial will follow at the Steele Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1pm to 2pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
