Lexington-Willie Leona Mitchum, 95, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021. She was born in South Carolina on August 28, 1926 to the late Emmie Mae Flake and Miles Hyldon Young.
She worked for the Civil Service for many years starting off as a Typist and finishing her career as a Purchasing Agent until her retirement. She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Drayton Rutherford Chapter 152 in Newberry, South Carolina. She served as president of the chapter in 2002-2004. In her spare time, she was passionate about learning her genealogy and heritage.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie (Kevin) Keelan; granddaughters, Kelly (Chris) Moreland and Mary Jane Mitchum Curry (Ben); and grandson, Quinton Floyd Mitchum.
She is predeceased by her husband, Quinton Lenox Michum; son, Quinton Eugene Mitchum; and long-time companion and care-taker, Benjamin Gabus.
A graveside service will be held on 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 18, 2021 at the Beaufort National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, SC Chapter, 225 N. Michigan Ave. Fl. 17, Chicago, IL, 60601. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family.
