William James Gorman
March 29, 1934 – May 31, 2026
William James Gorman passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, at the age of 92.
He is survived by his children, Russell, Billy, Sandra and Pamela, as well as his sister, Judy. He also leaves behind several grandchildren, along with many family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
William was a man of strong character, humor, and unforgettable personality. Known in his younger days as “The Silver Fox,” he brought laughter with his infectious laugh and energy wherever he went. He had a deep love for Western novels and classic Western and old-time movies, often enjoying them at a volume that reflected his enthusiasm for life.
He was a devoted golfer who treasured time spent with his golf group, where friendships were strong and laughter was constant. An avid outdoorsman, William enjoyed fishing, hiking, and hunting—though in his later years he reflected thoughtfully on the later. His love for nature remained a constant throughout his life.
A carpenter by trade, he went on to manage construction sites for buildings all across his home state of South Carolina. He took immense pride in his work and truly loved his work family. You couldn’t go far with him without hearing him point out a building he helped bring to life—each one accompanied by a story, a memory, and a smile.
As a father, he was adventurous, playful, and memorable. He created lasting family moments, taking his children on hikes filled with excitement, sometimes hiding along the trails, leaving them both frightened and delighted. In his own unique way, he taught them life lessons, even teaching them to swim by tossing them into the water with the words, “Sink or swim, kid!”. None ever called shotgun as you were likely to get pinched during your travels - always meant with love and humor.
He was known for keeping his home extraordinarily warm, a small but memorable part of his larger-than-life personality. William lived life fully, on his own terms, and left behind countless stories and cherished memories.
Now at peace, he’s reunited with his dear Pookie, joyfully romping together once more.
He will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his sense of humor, and the many moments of laughter he shared with those he loved.
