William H. “Bill” Williams, Jr. of Columbia passed away on Saturday at the age of 75.
Bill was the son of the late Durrett Lipscomb Williams & the late William H. Williams, Sr.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years Betti Nix Williams, only daughter Kimberly Williams Best, beloved son-in-law Stewart E. Best of Greenville, SC, (who gave him 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren), and his grand-dog, August Angel Von Best.
Bill graduated from Dreher High School in 1963. He studied at Clemson University and was a loyal Clemson Tigers fan. He spent most of his career in sales (primarily real estate and auto sales) and was also a licensed, certified locksmith. Throughout his life he enjoyed many hobbies including woodworking, sailing, racing, the Columbia Sportscar Club, and computers.
Bill developed a servant heart as a child at Washington Street United Methodist Church in Columbia, SC, and lived it out by volunteering in numerous ways. He was a past member of the Irmo Chamber of Commerce. He served in various capacities with Voter Registration including as a Precinct Poll Clerk and a Poll Manager. He participated in election campaigns for several friends. He and his wife Betti were longtime supporters of and volunteers for the Bob Capes Tennis Tournament to benefit Children’s Hospital. They also served together as Social Chairs of the Good Samaritan’s Sunday School Class at St. Andrews Baptist Church. And, he proudly supported his daughter as an Alzheimer’s Association volunteer at many of their annual events across the state including the Forget-Me-Not Ball, Bowl-A-Thon, Walk to End Alzheimer’s, and The Longest Day.
The family would like to thank the staff of Heritage at Lowman, Lexington Medical Center and Agape Hospice of the Midlands for their care of Bill and support of his family in his last years, weeks and days.
A memorial service will be held in the sanctuary at St Andrews Baptist Church at 2pm on Friday, May 29, in accordance with social distancing measures. Masks are encouraged but not required. There will be no visitation at this time. The service will also be live on the St Andrews Baptist Church page on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/SABCColumbia) for those unable to attend in person.
