William McKinley Bevel, III (Billy), 70, passed away on May 5, 2025 in Lexington, SC. Son of Juanita Bevel, and William Bevel, Jr. he was born December 31st, 1954, at Baptist Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. He was a contract painter in the Columbia/Lexington area for over 25 years and a devoted member of the Sims Park Slap em’ Boys in the Rosewood area. He also coached many little leaguers at Valencia Park for the City of Columbia. Many of those children he coached will always know him as Coach Billy. The sport of baseball was by far his favorite American past time. Little known fact is he was an avid musician, who knew his way around a guitar. Music was a passion of his that lived in his blood, and nothing brought more joy to him than listening to his favorite tunes.
He was preceded to heaven by his mother, Juanita; father, Wiilliam Bevel, Jr.; brother, Gary Bevel; and his beloved son, Graeme Bevel.
He is survived by his wife and mother of his children, Joni Bevel of Lexington, SC; their children, Julian Bevel of West Columbia, SC and his wife Stacy, Jesse Bevel of Columbia, SC and his fiancé Crystal, and Paul Peavy of Windsor, SC and wife Kalia Peavy; eight grandchildren, Brianne Bevel, Bristal Bevel, Britany Bevel, Aden Bevel, Chase Bevel, Cooper Haithcock, Dominic Peavy and David Northcutt; sister, Janet Sox of Lexington, SC; as well as many, many cousins, nieces and one nephew.
Billy was a deeply beloved father, brother, cousin, and friend. His passing was sudden but expected. He passed away in his home just as he wanted. While we lost our most beloved dad, many have lost a friend and loved one in him. He has been a rock to many, a master at sarcastic humor and witty timing to others, and even a glorious pain in the neck, to what I'm sure is a small select few (because no matter what happened between you in your lives, once you were marked as important to him, he'd be by your side if you needed him). There was so much more to him than just dad, though to us that was his greatest role - he was also a friend, a coworker and colleague, a cousin, brother, stand-in paternal figure to the fatherless, a painter, a musician, and the list goes on and on. We invite you all to share pictures or memories. It was his wish that we laugh and reminisce and smile together during this time.
A service honoring Billy will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at Cayce Masonic Lodge, No. 384, AFM, 1701 12th Street, Cayce, South Carolina. A reception for friends and family will follow the service from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
