William Andrew "Buddy" Heddy Obituary

William Andrew “Buddy” Heddy, age 80, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2024. He was born in Columbia, SC to the late Ruby Lee Heddy.

He graduated from the original Columbia High School in 1962. Buddy was a letterman in all sports in high school and continued to play sports in the Air Force and in civilian life. He began his military service in February of 1963 in the United States Air Force where he served at Turner AFB and Guam during the Vietnam War. He graduated from Midlands Technical College, the SC Criminal Justice Academy, the Federal Fire Academy and from Redstone Arsenal. Buddy worked for the Columbia Fire Department, the US Marshall’s Service and retired from USC Law Enforcement and Safety as an Investigator and Bomb Technician in September of 2002.

Buddy was a member of the International Association for Bomb Technicians and Investigators, SC Arson Investigators, South Carolina Crisis Negotiators Association, and the American Legion. He was also a volunteer for 25 years with the American Red Cross as an Instructor for CPR and First Aid.

He lovingly coached his sons in recreation baseball and football and was an avid USC fan and loved anything Carolina. William loved the Carolina Cup and loved to Shag dance.

Buddy is survived by his sons, William Russell “Russ” Heddy (Allison), Charles “Randy” Heddy (Nikki); grandchildren, Lauren Heddy, Jacob Heddy, Brandon Heddy, and Bryan Heddy (Kayla); three great grandchildren, Emmett, Eren, and Evie; brother, Andrew P. Heddy, Jr. (Janet) ;  and his niece, Amanda Heddy Strong (Cody), Jake Strong and Grayson Strong.

He is predeceased by his son, Douglas Reginald “Reggie” Heddy; and his nephew, Andrew Todd Heddy.

The family would like to thank Abby Road Hospice and NHC of Lexington for their special care.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel, 609 Northwood Road, Lexington, SC 29072. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Burial will be at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery.
