William “Bill” Bird Barr, 72, passed away at his home in Leesville, SC on January 16, 2024. He was born in Beaumont, Texas on December 30, 1951, to the late James Michael Barr, Jr. and Elizabeth Hurt Bird Barr. His paternal grandparents were James Barr and Alba Haynes Barr, long-time residents of Leesville. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Carole Uehlinger Bastian. Bill graduated from the University of Alaska Anchorage in terrestrial and marine archaeology before moving in 1992 to complete his education with a master’s degree from the University of South Carolina. He traveled the world and wrote and co-authored several published manuscripts. Bill’s life-long passion was researching the Civil War Era. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed nurturing his roses along the brick pathway that led to his office. Bill was charismatic and intelligent. He was a free-thinking, kind, and loquacious man who loved his family and friends. His life touched many and he will be missed by all who knew him.
