Wilbur G. "Bill" Lucas, of West Columbia, went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 9, 2021 after a lengthy illness. Born on September 23, 1940, he was a lifelong and devoted member of Dunn's Chapel Church. Bill was a Maintenance Supervisor at South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice for 27 years and served as a Constable. He was an avid farmer and generous with his bounty to his family, friends, and neighbors. His pecan trees and other crops from his family land fed his community for many years. Bill also loved to fish and camp with his friends and family at various campgrounds throughout South Carolina including Santee and Hunting Island State Parks and other state parks throughout South Carolina.
Bill is the son of James L. and Corine Shull Lucas, and was predeceased by his beautiful wife of 59 years, Joyce Corley Lucas, his sister Jeanette Spires Smith (John and James); and brothers Durham (Maryann), Heyward (Marlene) and Franklin (Sandra). Bill is survived by one brother, Johnny (Sylvia); three daughters, Kathy Baker (Alan), Freda Stone (David), and Lisa Miller
(Shaun); four grandchildren, Britney Rusch (Nathan), Taylor Slaton, Sydney Miller, and Caitlyn Miller; three great-grandchildren, Clifford Kyzer, Azleigh Kyzer, and Avery Rusch and his faithful companion Lulu; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and family.
Funeral services will be held at Dunn's Chapel, 281 Chapel Road, West Columbia, on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at 2 PM. Visitation will begin at 1 PM, prior to the service.
Special thanks to Lexington Medical Center, Amedysis Home Health and Fox Physical Therapy for caring for him during his illness. We'd also like to thank Bill's neighbors, who helped with keeping up the lawn and other chores he was no longer able to do. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dunn's Chapel Church.
For those who are not able to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed on Dunn’s Chapel’s Facebook page.
