Tommy passed away Tuesday, June 22, from complications due to Parkinson’s Disease. Born in Lexington, SC, he was the son of the late Lee Wessinger and Lillie Belle Risinger Davis. He was a graduate of Gilbert High School (Class of 1968), Lander University, and the U. S. Sports Academy. Tommy was a retired teacher and coach, having worked at Gilbert Middle School, Gilbert High School, and Batesburg-Leesville Middle School during his 28-year career.
Tommy was a member of Cedar Grove Lutheran Church and a former member of Grace Lutheran Church, Gilbert, SC. He was also a member of Ridge Road Community Club, the SC Coaches Association, and the Gilbert High School Athletic Hall of Fame, an honor he never expected. In addition to working with youth through his teaching and coaching career, Tommy’s passions included gardening, fishing, traveling, playing with model trains, and pulling for the Clemson Tigers. He loved his family, his friends, and the many students he called “his kids.” He was the best husband, son, brother, brother-in-law, Uncle Tonky, travel companion, and friend one could have wished for. He will be missed.
In addition to his parents, Tommy was predeceased by his infant brothers, Gerald and Charles Davis. Surviving are his loving wife of 29 years, Phyllis Caughman Davis; his brother Jack (Terry) Davis of St. Matthews; his sisters Bettie (Everett) Rooks, Gale (Joe) Bedenbaugh, all of Lexington, and Diane (Gene) Shealy of Leesville; his Caughman in-laws; and his many loving nieces and nephews.
