Thomas L. "Wink" Sox, Sr.

Thomas L. “Wink”, Sox, Sr. 95, passed away on May 22, 2022. Born August 14, 1926 in Lexington, SC, he was the son of the late Luke Sox and Mary Sox, and a lifelong member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his sons; Thomas L. Sox Jr. (Ginger) and Joel Sox; brothers, Roy Sox and George Sox; sisters, Joyce Smith and Carol Sox.  He was a loving grandparent to two grandchildren, Abby Beard (Tyler) and Jason Sox (DiAnna); and four great grandchildren: Holly Beard, Olivia Beard, Alston Sox, and Anna Katherine Sox.

Wink was predeceased by his wife of 75 years, Bobbie McIver Sox; brothers, John Sox, Bill Sox, Russell Sox, Allen Sox; and sisters, Melba Arnold, Grace Hannon, and Jane Amaker.

Wink served in the army during WWII. He was stationed in the Philippines right before the imminent invasion of Japan. It was while on a ship in the Pacific that he heard that Japan had surrendered. That day happened to be his birthday. He often remarked it was the best birthday present he could have asked for. After serving in the military, he was employed for Sears as manager of the garden shop. After retirement, he enjoyed duck hunting and spending time at the Hunting Lodge.

Wink was a devoted husband and always kind to everyone he met. He grew up in a loving family of 12 brothers and sisters and worked from an early age to help out the family. They enjoyed spending time together and remained a close-knit family through the years. He will be remembered for his honesty, for being a great example for others to follow, always staying busy with his gardening, and finding joy in the simple things in life.

The family extends a special thanks to all the staff at Oakleaf Village; especially Tiffany, who was his main caregiver. We appreciate the kindness and special care he received there.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 27 at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, at 11:00 am in the sanctuary. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel, is assisting the family.
