On Friday morning, September 8, 2023, Jerry conceded to his five-year struggle with Metastatic Prostate Cancer and Dementia after radiation therapy, oral hormone therapies and cognitive behavioral therapy.
After his last visit with the oncologist in July, he was advised to proceed with hospice palliative care which he began in early August. Geoffrey, Lauren and George, Lily as well as Jan has been with us during his final days.
Earlier this year, we celebrated 50 years together. Jerry would have observed his 71st birthday this October. Thank you to all of you who have visited, called and sent messages and most importantly have kept us in your prayers during this life altering journey.
At Jerry’s request, there will be no funeral. A private interment of ashes service for our family will be held at a later date.
Jerry always had a big heart and gave his time and donations to people and animals in need. He was particularly fond of animal rescue organizations that serve to provide necessary medical care and homes. He once said that if he had enough funds he would work to eradicate homeless and poorly treated animals. If anyone who might wish to make a memorial contribution do so to an organization close to your heart in his honor or please consider the Carolina Boxer Rescue https://carolinaboxerrescue.org/help-2/ways-to-help/ or the Boston Terrier Rescue of North Carolina https://btrnc.org/donations/
Surviving family members include his wife, Connie; his children Geoffrey and Lauren Stafford and his granddaughter Lillianna Ryn Stafford; his sister, Jan Stafford Walling (Sam) and niece Kristina Walling Risinger (Caleb).
Jerry is predeceased by his parents; Omagene (Peg) Post Stafford Sampson and Thomas Jerome Stafford.
Please keep us lifted up in your thoughts and prayers as we grieve the loss of the husband and father that took care of all of us.
