Thomas "Douglas" Arant, Sr. Obituary

Thomas D. “Douglas” Arant, Sr., a man of unwavering resilience and affability, was born on the 5th of April, 1940 in Columbia, South Carolina to Ronald and Mildred Arant.  He grew up in Columbia and West Columbia, graduating from Brookland-Cayce High School.

Throughout his 86 years, he embodied the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Thomas's life was a testament to this philosophy as he continuously impacted the lives of those around him with his kindness, hard work, and perseverance.

A dedicated worker, Douglas' career as a Warehouse Supervisor at Ben Arnold Beverage Co. was marked by his exceptional leadership and organizational skills. His colleagues often referred to him as the "beacon of the warehouse," illuminating the way for others with his expertise and guidance. In retirement, he enjoyed spending time in his Lexington home, where he cultivated a life filled with joy, laughter, and the love of his son, Thomas Jr.

Douglas passed away on June 22nd, and was predeceased by his parents; and his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Lou Arant.

Thomas Douglas Arant, Sr.'s life will be celebrated on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 10:00 am at the Red Bank United Methodist Church, located at 2909 Old Barnwell Road, Lexington, South Carolina, 29073. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium Lexington Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. As we gather to remember and honor his life, we are reminded of his infectious laughter, his unwavering dedication to his work, and his love for his family and friends. His life was a living embodiment of the quote, "The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well."
