Theo Frastic Gantt Engelking was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world suddenly on Friday, May 12, 2023, at age 91. Theo was born to Jim and Sarah Gantt on June 6, 1931. After graduating from Fair View High School in Lexington County, SC, Theo worked at various sewing rooms and finally, Burlington Industries where she retired. Theo married Curtis Miller (Deceased) of Batesburg and together, they had 2 children: Lydia Anne Rawls and Cynthia Carmen Bass. Theo later married William “Bill” Engelking (Deceased). Theo has four grandchildren: Laura Bass Gainey (Jody), Johnathan Belt (Brittany), Larry Belt and Penny Rawls Padgett. Theo Great Grandchildren are Tyler Belt and Brandon Ruth. Her Great, Great Grandchild is Adeleine Roof-Aguilar. Theo was part of a large family. Her siblings are Mollie Westenfeld, Jimmy Israel Gantt, Shelby Jean Kennedy (deceased), JoAnn Gantt Leaphart, Dwight Albert Gantt, Sarah Gantt Lamson and Terry Gantt. Theo also had two nephews, Jackie Gantt and Ollie Leaphart, who considered her their second mother.
Theo loved spending time in the kitchen, and always had some type of craft in the works. Theo’s prized possession and best friend was Shih tzu she affectionately called “little Theo”. Theo was a member of Hulon Baptist church and attended Eastside Baptist church, both in Batesburg-Leesville.
The family will receive friends beginning at 11 am and the funeral service is scheduled for 12 p.m. (Noon) on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, 256 Main Street, Batesburg-Leesville, SC 29070 Flowers may be delivered to the funeral home. Reverend Mitchell Bruner will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Ridge Crest Memorial Park.
