Mr. Steve Julius Spradley, 84, of Batesburg passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, June 5, 2026. He was born on April 30, 1942 in Hibernia “Hibunion”, South Carolina to the late X.L. and Alafair Maroney Spradley. Steve began his career in the textile industry at Owens-Corning Fiberglass as a furnace engineer until he retired after 43 years. After his retirement, he worked at Jackie Hite’s BBQ for over 25 years. Steve was an avid outdoorsman; he loved to hunt, fish, and go shrimping at Edisto Beach. Steve was a hardworker; he always stayed busy working on the family land, tending to his yard or driving his tractor. In his later years, Steve enjoyed Friday night dancing at the VFW Hut in Aiken. He also served in the South Carolina Army National Guard.
Surviving are his daughters, Denise Spradley Casey, Candy Spradley Hall, and Stephanie Spradley Norris (Keith); brother, Wade Spradley (Paulette); sister, Martha Jones (Thurmond); sisters-in-law, Rachel Spradley and Judy Spradley; grandchildren, Christopher Samuel “Sam” Norris (Brittany), Matthew Casey, and Patrick Ryan ‘JR” Hall, Jr. (Elizabeth); and great-grandchildren, Skiler Norris and Dani DiFranco. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Dorothy Jean Roland Spradley; brothers, Paul Spradley and Lane Spradley; and sister, Mary Maroney.
Memorial services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 14, 2026 at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Historic Batesburg-Leesville Chapel with Robert Padgett officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Historic Batesburg-Leesville Chapel is assisting the Spradley family with arrangements.
