Lexington-Shirley A Howard, 85, died Saturday, March 27, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Grace and Bobby Mack. She was a 1955 graduate of Gilbert High School. She retired from Burlington Industries as a clothing inspector, after retirement, she continued to stay involved in her community by working at Joey’s Sub and Sandwich Shop. She shared conversation and food with those who visited Joey’s.
Shirley was a member of Gilbert First Baptist Church. She also served her community by participating with the Peach Festival Committee and volunteered in the auxiliary for the Gilbert/Summit Volunteer Fire Department.
She is survived by her children, Tammy Caldwell (Andy), Chris Taylor (Vicky), Perry (Skip) Howard Jr. (Gloria), Tony Soles (Donna); daughter in law, Cathy Sole Kennerly (Johnny); her greatest blessings were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sisters, Gayle Metts (Verley) and Annette (Poogie) Mack.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her first husband, Garvin Taylor and husband of 33 years, Perry S. Howard Sr; a sister, Yvonne Barefoot of Leesville; a brother, James Mack of Leesville; stepson, Mike Soles; and grandson, Doug Soles both of Orangeburg.
During earlier times, she enjoyed numerous family vacations to the mountains and the beach. She was a fun loving Nanny who enjoyed baking cakes, making peanut brittle, quilting, crocheting and reading. She also enjoyed working in her numerous flower gardens and enjoyed watching her african violets and orchids bloom. She had a love for hummingbirds and has a hummingbird tattoo on her left ankle
A celebration of life will be held 2pm Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at Pisgah Lutheran Church, 1350 Pisgah Church Road, Lexington SC 29072. A private burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will follow the service at the church. Mask and social distancing will be encouraged.
