Sharon Rose Hamby Ganis was called home by our Lord and Savior on November 26, 2022. Sharon was born to T.C. and Merle Addy Hamby on June 4, 1947 in Athens, Tennessee. Sharon married Mitchell Dean Ganis on July 30, 1966, at Cedar Grove Lutheran Church. They have two sons Mitchell Andrew (Margaret) and David Christian (Carolyn) and two adored Grandchildren Autumn Ganis and Griffin Ganis.
A lifelong Lutheran and current Cedar Grove Lutheran Church member, Sharon actively participated in WELCA, holding local and state offices. She was a member of the SC Lions Club and was instrumental in coordinating their youth exchange program including taking exchange students into their home and chaperoning activities. She and her husband Dean were a part of the SC Via de Cristo movement and worked with Habitat for Humanity on multiple builds.
Sharon retired from BellSouth Company after many years of service. She came out of retirement to work for several years for Blue Cross/Blue Shield and finished up her work career at Thrivent Financial Services in Lexington, SC. Sharon loved reading, crocheting/knitting, watching movies, singing, and listening to music. She cherished spending time with family and helping others. Sharon sang with the Columbia Chapter of Sweet Adelines for several years. She especially loved to vacation at the beach.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Dean. She is survived by siblings Christine H. Butova, Jan H. Giesen (David), Ted C. Hamby (Angela), and numerous nieces, great-nieces, and a nephew.
Services will be held at Cedar Grove Lutheran Church on Friday, December 2nd, 2022 at 3:00 located at 1220 Cedar Grove Road, Leesville, South Carolina 29070. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to Cedar Grove Lutheran Church, Lutheran Hospice, SC Lions Club, Habitat for Humanity, or the charity of your choice. The family also requests that colorful clothing be worn to celebrate Sharon’s love of all things bright and beautiful if attending her funeral. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Historic Batesburg-Leesville Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
