Sandra Jean "Sandy" H Chubon

Sandra Jean "Sandy" Hildebran Chubon, 82, died in her home on May 29, 2023. She was the daughter of Ethel and Leroy Hildebran, and the widow of Robert Chubon, whom she married in 1965.

Born in Mercer, PA on October 14, 1940, she spent her childhood in Mercer County. After graduating from St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland, Ohio in 1962, she earned a BSN (1965) and a MS in Hygiene (1969) from the University of Pittsburgh. She was employed by the Visiting Nurse Association of Allegheny County in Pittsburgh where she developed a specialized program of care for persons with end stage renal disease.

Sandy and Bob moved to Columbia in 1980, where she earned a Ph.D. in Educational Research in 1986. She taught Community Health Nursing at the University of South Carolina in Columbia for 12 years and at USC – Aiken for another 12 years before retiring due to her own failing health.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in April, 2022. She is survived by her brother, Kenneth Hildebran of Pennsylvania and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sandy was a member of Sigma Beta Tau, devoted to nursing excellence, and an active long-time member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbia, where a memorial service will be held at a later date.
