Sandra Jo Dooley Fort passed away at home on Sunday, April 4, 2021. She was born on
November 2,1956, in Columbia South Carolina, to the late Newton Tillman Dooley, Jr and Joann
Connelly. She also resided in Tennessee, Georgia and Florida before returning to South
Carolina in 2012.
Sandra learned to play piano by ear at a very young age and was a talented vocalist. She was a
well-known artist at the Ridge Spring Jamboree in Batesburg, Gospel Conventions, and in
Memphis in the 1960’s and ‘70’s. She recorded a single record in 1974 in Nashville. In later
years, she had a successful music career in Florida. She had a great passion for serving the
elderly and worked briefly as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She was a lover of all animals, the
beach and Sci-Fi.
Sandra had many illnesses during her life including breast cancer at age 22 and thyroid cancer
at age 55. She was a true warrior and always fought her way through no matter the
circumstances.
Sandra is survived by her mother, Joann Connelly; daughter, Regina Owens Cain (Ricky); son,
Mike Marchbanks; grandsons, KC Cain and Isaiah Cain; granddaughter, Kaylee Marchbanks;
sister, Joyce Dooley Sease (Michael); brother, Johnny Thompson; Aunt, Bruce Rikard; and
numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at 4pm at Praise Church located at
4532 Pond Branch Road, Leesville, SC 29070. The celebration of life will be followed by a
visitation with family in the Praise Church Glory Barn.
