Robert O. "Bob" Brunson Obituary

It is with great sadness, love, and appreciation that we mark the passing of Robert O. “Bob” Brunson, age 87.  He died peacefully on the night of August 25 in Lexington Medical Center after a long health struggle.  Mr. Brunson was born January 21, 1938, to Oregon Felton and Natalie Stone Brunson of Gifford, South Carolina. He had one sibling, Ruth Gayle Brunson McPherson of Fairfax. Both his parents and sister predeceased him.

Bob attended Estill schools before attending Florida State University during 1955-1956, followed by receiving a Bachelor of Science from Clemson University in Industrial Management in 1962.

His broad professional life included insurance claims adjusting at Gay and Taylor, Allstate, Seibels Bruce, Unison Insurance Company, and James C. Green. He retired in 2003 back to Columbia from Charleston with wife, Brenda Green Brunson, originally of Florence, South Carolina, whom he married in 1964. They had one son, Robert Jason Brunson of West Columbia, both of whom survive him. He is, additionally, survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Joe Robertson of Rock Hill and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Bob was incredibly musically talented and skilled, having won many State championships for his voice when he was younger and later playing Saxophone in the Clemson Marching Band and The Blue Notes Orchestra. Later, he contributed his beautiful voice as part of the Charlotte Oratorium Singers, the Columbia Choral Society, and the Diossiam Choir. He and his beloved wife Brenda were very proud to have even had the opportunity as part of that group to sing at the Vatican.

Bob was an avid reader, loved photography, sailing, and playing on his computer. He stayed informed and current on political and world events, holding strong and informed opinions as a proud Democrat.

Known for his sharp wit, along with his sweet, gentle, and fun-loving personality, he will be greatly missed by many.
