Robert “Bobby” Lambert Schilling, Sr., born on January 21, 1937 in Greenville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026 at his home of 54 years in Lexington, South Carolina. After graduating from Eau Claire High School in 1955, Bobby remembered his times of the basketball and baseball teams fondly. As one article in the Eau Claire Post wrote of his character on the court: “Bobby is a little man with more spirit and fight than one ten times his size”. He faithfully carried that attitude forward. In his professional life, Bobby made significant contributions as a diligent driver's license examiner with the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles. He was instrumental in setting up the statewide CDL program and retired as Director of Driver Improvement. His commitment to safety and excellence in transportation was unwavering. Bobby also served in the Air National Guard and as a longtime Boy Scout Troop Leader, further exemplifying his dedication to service and his community. Outside of a professional setting, Bobby was a valued member of the Mt. Horeb Church and an avid USC Gamecocks fan.
Bobby is survived by his loving wife, Linda Schilling; children, Robert L. Jr. (Katherine) Schilling, Barry (Carrie) Schilling and Kathy Schilling; grandchildren, Nick (Meagan) Schilling, Amanda Schilling, Rachel Schilling, Delaney Schilling, Kaitlyn Schilling, and Sarah Schilling; great grandchildren, Ellie, Mia and Colton; along with many special nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents, Lewis and Peggy Schilling; brothers, Lewis Schilling Jr., John Schilling, and Charles Schilling; and sisters, Betty V. Roberts and Joan Barfield.
The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to caregivers Rajiv Laird, the staff of Ablake Healthcare, especially Kelsey and Tyna, and the staff at Three Oaks Hospice, especially Jessica, Jill, Elena and Brittany.
A graveside service complete with RC Cola’s and Moonpies, will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at 11:00 am at Lexington Memorial Cemetery, Lexington, South Carolina. Services for Bobby are under the direction of Barr-Price Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial contributions to be made to the South Carolina Hospice and Palliative Care Foundation. In honor of Bobby’s memory, we invite you to share your thoughts, memories, and photos on his memorial page. Your contributions will serve as a comfort to Bobby's family during this challenging time.
