Robert Tidd Benson, of Lexington, SC, died Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the age of 84. Robert was born on Staten Island, NY. He was the son of the late Carl Alfred Benson and Dorothy Tidd Benson. He was a member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lexington, SC. After graduating high school and serving in the military, Bob worked at a dairy farm in upstate New York while pursuing his education. He received degrees from Delhi Agricultural and Technical Institute in New York; his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Cornell University and his Doctor of Education from The
Pennsylvania State University. He was always actively involved in church activities as committee member; usher; communion assistant; and Sunday Church School activities. Bob served as Professor at Clemson University; Assistant Professor of Agricultural Engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Before retiring, he was employed by the State Department of Education in Columbia, SC. After retirement he worked at the Depot Building and Supply Company.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Virginia Stiff Benson, son, John A. Benson (Kelly), daughter Joanne L. Benson (Tony) and grandsons Jack and Cooper Benson.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring to make memorials may do so to St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Lexington, SC, or to a favorite charity. Funeral Service will be held at Barr-Price Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, on Friday September 28, 2018 at 2:00 pm with the Reverend Cassandra Boehringer presiding. Visitation will be 1 hour before service. Private interment will be at Woodridge Memorial Park, Lexington, SC.
