Richard "Dick" C. Key

West Columbia – Richard Calvin Key, 77, passed away Thursday, September 23, 2021. Born in Columbia, SC on October 18, 1943, he was the son of the late Richard Blackwell Key and the late Mary Magdalene Johnston Key.  

Mr. Key graduated from Brookland-Cayce High School in 1961.  He retired from Carolina Eastman in 1984 and founded Lyn-Rich Contracting Co., Inc. in that year. He was a member of Cayce Masonic Lodge, Jamil Shrine Temple, and Cayce United Methodist Church. Mr. Key was a past President of Midland Dixie Youth Baseball and was inducted into the Hall of Fame. He was instrumental in establishing Midland Rattlers football. 

 He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Beverly Miller Key; son, Kevin Key (Edie);  daughter, Leane R. Key (Mathew Sears); he was devoted grandanna to Taylor Key (Jessica) and Colby Key (Alyssa Wood); a devoted gaga to Alexandra Key; lifelong friend and brother-in-law to Russell Miller (Faye Meetze). 

The funeral service will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 26, 2021 at Cayce United Methodist Church with the Rev. Meghan Cook. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Masks are required at the church. Burial will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Mike McMillan, Travis Miller, Wayne O’Neal, Doug Richbourg, Carl Sherwood, Jack Sightler, Larry Joe Spires, and Paul Taylor. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Attn:  Processing Center, P O Box 947765, Atlanta, GA 30394 or Cayce United Methodist Church, 1600 12th Street, Cayce, SC 29033. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington chapel is assisting the family.
