On October 3, 2021, Richard Lawton Cain, Jr., departed this earthly life peacefully and now is in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He will be missed by his loved ones. As he was transitioning to his heavenly home, he was heard praying and reciting the 23rd Psalm.
Mr. Cain was born December 25, 1933 in Sumter, SC to the late Richard L. and Lou D. Cain. He graduated from Presbyterian College in 1956 and married his childhood sweetheart, Martha Boykin in the same year. Together, they raised 3 boys; Rick, Joe, and Bob. He also proudly served in the US Army from 1956-1960.
During his childhood, he was a member of Hebron Presbyterian Church in Sumter. He later became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC and was a member there until his death.
Mr. Cain is survived by his wife, Martha; 3 sons; 3 daughters-in-law; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and his sister, Louisa Clark. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Thomas Cain; and daughter-in-law, Jayne Cain.
The family appreciates the love and support given by the members and staff of the First Presbyterian Church of Columbia. The family also wishes to express sincere appreciation to the staff of the Laurel Crest Retirement Community and to the staff of Lighthouse Hospice Group.
