Phillip Stallings, Jr. Obituary

Phillip R. Stallings, Jr., was born November 13, 1942 in Columbia, SC.  He was the only son of Phillip R. Stallings and Marie Stallings.

Phil Stallings grew up in Columbia, SC and graduated from Columbia High School in 1959.  In the early 1960’s, he moved to NYC to attend the NY School of Visual Arts.  It was during this time that he met his wife, Fran, and they would marry in May of 1967.  In 1968, the newlyweds moved to Atlanta and would eventually move back to Columbia in the early 1970’s.

They had one child, Phillip III, born in September 1973.  Phil spent several years working with his father in the sign business.  In the late seventies, after his father died, he began a very successful career as an outside salesman working for several jewelry companies.  In the middle 90’s, he went back into the sign business until he retired.  His life changed dramatically in 1995 when he was born again, trusting Jesus Christ as his savior.  Fran also became a believer shortly after his conversion.  He and Fran became members of Northside Baptist Church.  In 1998, Phil and Fran served on the evangelism team and ultimately Phil was called into Prison Ministry in 2011.  He spent years ministering to prisoners at Kirkland Correctional and Broad River prisons.

In 2015, Phil was diagnosed with bone cancer but continued serving faithfully until his health began to fail in 2019.  After battling cancer and other health problems for 5 years, he passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 11, 2021.

Phil is survived by his wife, their son, 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
