Paula Amick passed away on December 6, 2025, in Leesville, SC. She was a devoted daughter and wonderful sister and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Born on October 7, 1963, in Columbia, SC, she was welcomed home to the Amick Farm in Leesville where her three siblings eagerly awaited her arrival.
Paula was an accomplished educator, who taught for more than 30 years in Berkeley County in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. During her tenure, she served as a classroom teacher, guidance counselor, and eventually in administration in the district office. Paula later taught English as a second language through a Lexington County adult education program. She inspired countless children and adults during her years in education and always had an entertaining story to share about her students. Paula was passionate about the Lowcountry community and could always be counted on to help organize volunteer events to support local families. She graduated from Salem Schools and Columbia College where she played multiple sports, and she went on to earn two master’s degrees from The Citadel.
Left to treasure her memory are her beloved mother, Carol Flowers Green; three brothers, Si, Ken, and Eric; two sisters, Beth and Catherine; nine nieces and nephews, and a large extended family. A celebration of Paula’s life and burial will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Wittenberg Lutheran Church Cemetery in Batesburg-Leesville. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Historic Batesburg-Leesville Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
She was predeceased by her father Paul Leon Amick; her two stepfathers Dr. Peter Byrnes Sandifer and John William Green; and Estelle Busbee who was a long-time family friend and nanny for generations of Amick children.
Paula lived life to the fullest and was always the life of the party. Her grand stories and infectious laugh will be remembered by all who knew her. She loved spending time outdoors in the Lowcountry and at her family’s lake home, and she always had a new project she was eager to tell you about. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the James F. Byrnes Foundation.
