Orin Briggs Obituary

On July 2, 2026 following a two-year period of serious health issues, Orin G. Briggs, Jesus Follower, Attorney at Law, rested his final case entering Heaven, his eternal resting place at the age of eighty-eight.  Born on December 20, 1937 and raised in Columbia, South Carolina, he was the son of Orin L and Violet Sorgee Briggs. 

He is predeceased by his parents; and only sibling, Joel L Briggs.

Orin is survived by his wife of sixty years, Camellia S Briggs; two daughters, Katharine Saul of Lexington, South Carolina and Laurel McMaster (Gregg) of Columbia, South Carolina; grandchildren, Graham and Jamison Kern and Shawn McMaster, Jacob and Thomas Saul.

Orin became a follower of Jesus Christ at a very early age.  He was a member of First Baptist Church, Lexington, South Carolina.  Orin was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Public Servant and loyal Friend to all.  Above all, he was a well-equipped, avid defender of Biblical-based Faith in Jesus Christ.  He provided legal counsel to Christian Schools, Home School organizations, Churches and Pastors, defending their Constitutional right to Freedom of Worship.  He was a strong voice advocating for the sanctity of life.

Orin graduated Olympia High School in Columbia, South Carolina, in 1955 and enlisted in the United States Navy in September, 1955, serving his country until September, 1959.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Bob Jones University in 1964. In 1966, he met Camellia Stafford at Inter- varsity Christian Fellowship and they were married on July 2, 1966. Orin obtained his Judicial Doctor degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1967, followed by his Master of Laws LL.M. from George Washington University, Washington D.C. 

Orin served as Legal Counsel for various institutions and organizations throughout his decades-long career.  One of his especially meaningful experiences was serving with The Honorable Strom Thurmond, long-standing Statesman and South Carolina Senator. 

In 1973 became General Counsel for Environmental Protection Agency for four years in Atlanta. He continued his work in Columbia, South Carolina. In 1977 he began his law practice until his failing health ended his ability to continue in 2023.

As Orin's earthly life ended on July 2, 2026, he leaves behind a legacy of love for God, His beloved Family, His Country, Friends and Clients.  He will be remembered for his passion for defending Justice for All and the Rule of Law.

A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Orin G Briggs will be held on July 23, 2026 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Lexington 415 Barr Road Lexington South Carolina. In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for memorials to be made to The Wilds Christian Association P O Box 509 Taylors, SC 29687 where he served on the board for a great number of years. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
