Onnie Lavon "Bud" Shealy, 82, of West Columbia, SC, entered eternal rest on March 22, 2025. Born on August 25, 1942, in West Columbia, SC, he was the son of the late Onnie Asbil and Juanita Starnes Shealy, our beloved "Granny."
Bud was the cherished husband of Regina Donald Shealy, with whom he shared 61 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, faith, and family. He was a proud and loving father to his daughters, Regina Anne and Carrie Elizabeth, and a beloved father-in-law to Charles Tidwell and Travis Ross. He is also survived by his siblings, Wayne Shealy (Olivia), Lyndell Shealy (Wanda), and Carolyn Brown (Gene); his treasured grandchildren, Reagan, J.D., Kelsey, and Marie, as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A retired member of the National Guard, Bud served full time for 32 years with dedication and honor as a master carpenter, certified welder and mechanic in the machine shop. Beyond his service, he was a gifted craftsman, known for his remarkable ability to build anything from scratch. His handiwork was unmatched—strong, precise, and built to last, just like Bud himself. His personal motto, "Built better by Bud," was a testament to both his skill and the enduring legacy he leaves behind. When not at work, or at church, you could find him outside tending to a vegetable garden or training his horses for a wagon ride.
Faith was the foundation of Bud’s life, and he was a lifelong and devoted member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. His unwavering commitment to his family, his church, and his community defined the way he lived—always with love, integrity, and a servant’s heart. Though he has left this earthly home, his spirit, his craftsmanship, and his love will stand the test of time—just like everything he built with his hands and his heart.
A celebration of life service will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in West Columbia on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at 2 pm to honor and remember Bud. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held in the parlor prior to the service from 12:00 (noon) to 1:45 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the HVAC fund at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in his memory.
