Nancy Jones Strubeck Obituary

Nancy (Jones) Strubeck, 92, passed away peacefully in Lexington, SC, surrounded by family, on May 5, 2025. She and her husband, Lou, celebrated 62 years of marriage before his passing on August 8, 2020.

Nancy was a kind, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She had countless friends, and her love and hospitality were beyond measure. Nancy had boundless energy and was committed to, and thrived on, helping others and making them happy. She was known for her banana cupcakes and lemon bars.

An only child, she was born in West Pittston, PA, on June 7, 1932, to the late Thomas and Clara (Hastie) Jones. Nancy worked at Carpenter's flower shop and was a vivacious cheerleader captain at West Pittston High School. Upon graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, she was a nurse at the former Nesbitt Memorial Hospital in Kingston, PA.

Nancy and Lou moved to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in 1960 where they raised their children Louis and Sherry. She was one of the early "working mothers and wives", working mostly as a school nurse before retiring in 1994 from the Bethlehem Area School District.

Nancy had a strong faith and regularly attended Bethlehem's First Presbyterian Church. Committed to her children and their activities, she was a member of the Freedom Athletic Booster and Band clubs. She never missed Louis' high school basketball games, made frequent trips to watch him play college basketball at the College of Charleston, SC, and chaperoned Sherry's New Year's Day band trips in California and Texas.

In 1995, Nancy and Lou relocated to Arizona where they joined The Hearty Souls at Scottsdale Bible Church. Nancy enjoyed volunteering, traveling with Lou, and doting on, and watching their grandchildren grow in Scottsdale, Arizona and Dallas, Texas. She enjoyed Wyoming Valley pizza, Duke basketball, The Price Is Right (she was a contestant and made it to the Showcase!), baking, and was an ardent jigsaw puzzle enthusiast. Nancy celebrated her 90th birthday by riding every ride at Disney World, and until recently took daily miles-long walks.

Predeceased by her husband, Lou, she is survived by her children, Louis (Kay) and Sherry James (Phil); grandchildren, Ryan (Alex), Lauren LaRuffa (Dante) and Megan Fera; and her great-grandchildren, Brandon, Emery, Charlotte, Duke and Sutton. She will occupy the empty chair Lou has been saving at heaven's pinochle table. There will be no public service. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your local Hospice. Barr-Price Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, is assisting the family.
