Nancy Jean Croxton Smith entered her eternal home in Heaven on Sunday September 28, 2025, at the age of 86, following a brief battle with cancer. She is now rejoicing with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Westside Baptist Church, 2100 Platt Springs Road, West Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 11:45 am, with the service to follow at 12:00 noon. The service will be officiated by Reverend Ray Wrobel. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel is assisting the arrangements.
Nancy was born on July 17, 1939, daughter of the late Edgar Manly Croxton Sr and Sarah (Black) Croxton. Nancy was the youngest of ten children and; was a graduate of Mount Zion High School in Winnsboro, SC. She married James Harris Smith on March 4, 1960, and; they celebrated 50 years of marriage prior to his death.
She retired after 35 years of employment with Lindler Manufacturing (Mitchell Distributing) in 2015. She spent her earlier married years, as a homemaker and was always devoted to her family and children. She was a faithful member at Westside Baptist Church for sixty years. God was her priority. She exemplified her Spiritual gifts of leadership, teaching, faith and service/care. She always had a calming disposition; she was a willing, caring and giving person, never selfish. She signified the true picture of serving as the hands and feet of Christ here on earth. She was always involved with activities for all her children, grandchildren and great-grand children, she attended many sports and school events. Her love and dedication for her family will never be forgotten and her actions will always hold a special place in the hearts of many.
She is survived by three children, Mike Smith (Polly) of West Columbia, Janice Smith-Hanko (Rick) of Irmo, Deborah Shull (Tim) of Lexington; grandkids, Brad Smith (Vanessa), Ashley Gee (Brandon), Emily Calvitt, Patrick Hanko (Kristen), Davis Hanko (Becca), Deric Hanko (Brooke), Sarah Shull (Jimmy), Amber Shull (Matthew); great grandkids, Landon and Eli Gee, Haley Smith, Conner and Blake Hanko, Adalyn, Anistyn, and Carson George, Peyton Hewitt; sister, Rachael Crouch (Thurmond) of Winnsboro; multiple nieces, and nephews; and great nieces and nephews; and dearest companion Tom Grubbs, that added much joy and adventures in her last years.
Nancy is preceded in death by her husband James H. Smith; brothers, Edgar Manley Jr., Hugh Lindsay, and Alex Lee Sr; sisters, Essie Compton, Sara Peake, Lorena Hinson, Annie Mae Cartner, and Doscha Brown.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Westside Baptist Church.
