Melanie Marie Gladden Morrison, lover of shoes, purses, and music, left this life far too soon on Thursday, April 22, 2021. She was born in Rock Hill, SC on February 11, 1955, but the home of her heart was Blowing Rock, NC, where she lived as a child until her teens.
Always possessing an acerbic wit, no one who ever met her was likely to forget her. When let into her orbit, she was kind, giving, hilarious and fiercely protective of those she loved. She would give the shirt off her back, but not her shoes never her shoes.
After she married and had three sons, Melanie went back to school, earning her certificate in paralegal studies. Life threw her a curve ball when her firstborn grandson, Drake Louis, came to live with her and Randy. They welcomed the challenge head on and cherished him as their own.
After retiring in her early 60’s, she filled her time with perfecting her garden, true crime documentaries, Scottish novels, online shopping for shoes and handbags, and spoiling her dog.
Melanie was predeceased by her husband, Marion Randall Morrison, her first born son, David Louis Morrison, and her father, Herbert Queen Gladden.
She is survived by her mother, Louise Smith Gladden of Bluffton, SC; her sons, Cory Randall (Liz) Morrison and Adam Travis Morrison of Charleston, SC; three grandsons, three granddaughters, and three great grandsons.
Affectionately referred to as Mimi, she also leaves behind her three younger sisters, Beth (Johnny) Bryant of Lexington, SC; Joan (Bill) Madison of Alpharetta, Ga; and Amy (James Blankenship) Gladden of Bluffton, SC. Her five nephews and three nieces will greatly miss the humor Mimi always brought to the family gatherings.
In her final months, Melanie bravely fought breast cancer. Stating that she was a Warrior Queen, even when ill, she said she was dancing (slowly) to Toby Keith. She was truly that Warrior Queen and our lives are richer for having loved her.
There will never be another Mimi. She will be forever missed.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel has assisted the family.
