Mary Sue Almond Butler, 100, of Dawsonville GA, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Monday, April 13, 2026. Born February 16, 1926, in Columbia SC, she was the daughter of the late Dewey Lee and Polly Sandifer Almond, and was the wife of the late Fred W Butler, Jr.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was pre-deceased by her brothers, William F “Bill” Almond and Charles Richard “Charlie” Almond; a sister, Alma Hazel Almond; and a son, Fred W Butler III.
Mrs. Butler was a graduate of Columbia High School Class of 1944 in Columbia, SC smart enough to graduate in 3 years. She retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield after 21 years of service. And she was a member of First Baptist Church of Gilbert SC.
She is survived by daughters, Judith Butler Jewell of Dawsonville, GA and Jean Butler Leming of Charleston, SC. She was “Nana” to grandchildren, DeeDee Wilson Jennings (Gregg), Laura Wilson McCombs (Bob), Ernie Wilson (Sydnee), and Bryce Butler Spillman (Ryan); great-grandchildren, Cole Jennings (Peyton), Britt Jennings (Natalie), Riley Raybon Steele (Josh), Emma Wilson, and Eva Wilson; and great-great grandchildren, Noel Jennings, Gregory Jennings, and Barron Steele.
A very special “Thanks” is extended to Pruitt Hospice especially Angie Walker and Katie Hayes for the superb care and attention they gave to Mrs. Butler.
The family will receive friends at 12:00pm with the funeral service at 1:00pm on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Barr-Price Funeral Home, 609 Northwood Rd, Lexington SC 29072. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia SC 29209. The service will be officiated by Rev. Steve Allen, Associate Pastor of Northside Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Diabetes Association or to The Arthritis Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
