Lexington—On July 4th, 2025 Heaven gained another earthly angel, Mary Storey Dewyea. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and many family members and friends that have gone on before her. She was surrounded by his love and the love of her family when she took her last breath.
Mary was born in Saluda, SC on July 31, 1937. She was the daughter of the late James and Gladys Storey but was raised with the support of her step father, George Duffie after her father passed away when she was a young girl.
She gave birth to two children, her daughter, Lisa Sightler (Robert), who was waiting on her when she arrived to heaven; and a son, Joe Pilot (Dale). Mary also chose two more, Christopher Dewyea, and James “Scooter” Bickley who she cared for until his death with a love unimaginable to many. She was also chosen by God to raise her granddaughters, Stephanie Bramlett (Doug) and Robin Gooldy (David) after their mother Lisa’s death. Mary was a grandmother to Mathew Pilot (Danielle). Lastly she was Granny (great-grandmother) to eight more beautiful children, Allyson Bramlett, Ryan Starling, Hunter Bramlett, Jacob Starling Elena Gooldy, Leyland Gooldy, Noah Pilot and Olivia Pilot.
She was predeceased by a sister and two brothers.
Mary had over thirty year career as a Surgical Tech for Labor and Delivery. She was there to help bring hundreds and possibly thousands of newborns into this world. Mary was part of the team who delivered the first newborn at what was the former Lexington County Hospital, now Lexington Medical Center before retiring. After her retirement, she offered her home and heart to become a temporary foster mom.
Mary lived a life of caring and love to others. Always putting others before herself as a true servant of God! A true earthly angel; God has made a special place for her in heaven which has brought peace to her family and friends. She will be missed but never forgotten.
A celebration of life service will be conducted at 10:00 am Monday July 14, 2025 at Laurel Baptist Church Cemetery, 2250 Pine Street, West Columbia, SC.
