Mary Elizabeth (Martin) Miree, affectionately known as Mae, was born on August 25, 1952, in Monetta, South Carolina, to the late Rosa Lee Martin and the late MC Gant. On Friday, August 8, 2025, Mae passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Mae spent her early years in Monetta, SC, where she attended the Ridge Hill School System. In 1966, at the age of 14, she relocated to New York City and continued her education in Bronx, NY. In 1971, she got married. After several years living in New York, she would move back to Monetta, South Carolina with her daughter, Stacey. Later in life she moved repeatedly between South Carolina and New York. She resided in New York until December 2023, at which time she relocated to Lexington, SC.
Mae was known for her independence, self-confidence, and fun-loving personality. Her ambition drove her to pursue new opportunities and experiences throughout her life.
Mae had two children, Stacey and Tracie (Antione). She deeply loved her family and was known for her strong personality and the joy she brought to those around her. Mae enjoyed dressing up, often choosing her favorite colors, red and black, to express her vibrant style and personality. Mae always enjoyed having a good time.
Though Mae will be greatly missed, her memory will be forever cherished by her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her mother, Rosa Lee Martin; her grandmother, Corine Martin; and two brothers, Willie Martin and Joseph Martin.
Surviving family members are, daughter: Stacey Lanham (Clarence), Lexington, SC; son, Tracie (Antione) Martin, Bronx, NY; grandchildren: Shavonya Martin, Demetrius Lanham, and Shadavia Lanham, all of Lexington, SC; great-grandson, Jaiden Rice, Lexington, SC; siblings, Victor Martin (Clarksville, TN), Michael McDaniel (Bronx, NY), Lisa McDaniel (Charlotte, NC), Katherine Gantt and Carnell Gantt (Batesburg- Leesville, SC); aunts and uncles: Janice Martin, Sylvester Martin (Mary), Chris Martin (Deborah), and Robert Lee Martin (Rosa); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel, 609 Northwood Road, Lexington, SC. A funeral service will follow immediately at 2:00 pm.
