Lexington-Mary H. Sharpe, 77, transitioned to her next life peacefully on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at her home in Edmund, SC. Ms. Sharpe was born in Orangeburg County to the late Daisy Bell Harley and David Melton Harley.
She is survived by her daughter, Loretta Richards; grandchildren, Joseph R. Richards and David B. Richards; adoptive grandchildren, Sinclair Turner, Kalia Turner, and Annelia Turner; sister, Dean (Odell) Shealy; brother, Roger Neal (Beth) Amacker; step children, Archie Sharpe Jr. (Coralee), Gwendolyn Garrett, Judy McDaniel, Sara Morris, Cheryl Ackerman, Evelyn Campbell; four loving birds, Spirit, Chi-Chi, Gi-Gi, and Joe-Joe; and a host of other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by husband, Archie (Buck) Sharpe Sr.; sister, Faye Holden; and brother, Harry Harley.
Mary worked as a cook for many years including the Hilltop Cafe of Swansea (12 years) and Gaston Copper Recycling before moving into the Lexington District 2 cafeteria system to finish out her working career. She was an avid gardener who loved plants and flowers. She loved her birds which she raised throughout her adult life. Mary was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where she served as church clerk for more than a decade.
Funeral Service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Antioch Baptist Church with the Pastor Bennie L. Perry, Rev. Archie Sharpe, and Rev. Calvin Snellgrove. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel and other times at her residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery Fund 1477 W E Jeffcoat Rd, Gaston, SC 29053.
