West Columbia-Margaret Elders, 80, passed away October 1, 2020, after a brief illness. She was born on January 19, 1940 to the late Walter K. Stack, Sr. and Virginia Stack.
Margaret is survived by her loving husband of 42½ years, Gene R. Elders; sons, Vernie (Janet) Haltiwanger of Lexington and Brian (Ann) Haltiwanger of Lexington; daughter, Sandy H. (John) Greene of Cayce; step-sons, George A. Elders and Michael Elders of Cayce; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Deborah Ann Haltiwanger Evans; grandson, Eric Lloyd Shields; step-son, Gene R. Elders, Jr., and Barbara Jean Elders Roberson; brother, Walter K. Stack, Jr.; and sisters, Mary Janette Stack and Virginia Stack.
Margaret was always a headstrong woman, often doing for others and never turning away anyone that needed help. She would often sit on her front porch talking with neighbors. She loved gardening, mainly planting flowers in her yard, celebrating holidays and decorating for every single one. She loved her grandchildren dearly, and would have done anything for her family had she been asked. Margaret was proud of all her children and grandchildren and loved spending time with them.
The family extends a special thanks to MSA Hospice for the loving care of Margaret during her brief illness, specifically, Tasha and Peggy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ramp Committee in care of Rocky Grove Baptist Church of Salley, SC or a charity of one’s choosing.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Southland Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2020 at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel.
