It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our sweet mom, Margaret Shirley Piepoli, who left this world on May 10, 2026 to be with the Lord. The Lord blessed her with 93 yrs on this earth, which was full of family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was focused on her family and devout in her Catholic faith throughout her life and often spoke about being born with a sixth sense.
She was predeceased by her husband, Martin Piepoli, Jr.
Shirley is survived by her three children, Marty Piepoli (Patricia) of Lexington, SC, Dawn Benvenga (Anthony) of Baltimore, MD, and Nancy Fafaul (Bryan) of Land O’Lakes, Fla. Gram to her grandchildren, Mark Piepoli (Stephanie), Gianna Riethmiller (David), Bryan Fafaul (Jes), Christopher Piepoli, and Elena Stout (Patrick); and known as GiGi to her six great grandchildren, Sloane, Sage, Maeve, River, Raelyn, and Noah.
A graduate of Sparrows Point High in 1951, she married Martin Piepoli, Jr, in 1956 and spent most of her life in the Baltimore area. Mom was employed over the years as a telephone operator, bookkeeper, purchasing agent, substitute schoolteacher and a hospital special procedures representative before retirement and moving to Columbia, South Carolina in 1999.
Shirley noted that her greatest accomplishment was being a mom and the successes of her family. Mom had a heart of gold, never forgot a birthday and always put herself before others. She was an avid reader, enjoyed puzzling, crosswords, and loved sports, especially Lady Gamecock basketball and her hometown Baltimore Ravens. She was also active in the Sons of Italy in Baltimore and a member of the Columbiettes in affiliation with the Knights of Columbus at St. John Neuman Catholic Church in Columbia.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Amedisys Home Hospice for their comfort and care, the Respite Care Services provided by the staff of First Light Homecare and Barr-Price Funeral Home.
A celebration of life will be scheduled in the future by the family. Memorials can be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s-Dementia Society of America.
