Services for Marvin Dewey "M.D." Caldwell, Jr., 84, will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Historic B-L Chapel with the Rev. Bill Wright and the Rev. Steve Kittrell officiating. Burial will follow in the Leesville Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Laurel Baptist Church, 2250 Pine St., West Columbia, SC 29170.
Mr. Caldwell passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2012. Born in Gastonia, NC, he was a son of the late Marvin Dewey, Sr. and Ethel Ware Caldwell. He was a member of Laurel Baptist Church and was a former member of First Baptist Church of Leesville. Mr. M.D. was a Navy Veteran, a former Civitan, was a Charter Member of the Ponderosa Country Club, and a member of Indian Trail Golf Course. He retired from Burlington Industries, was employed by Barr-Price Funeral Homes. He was an avid gardener, loved to make fudge and pickles for his family and friends. He lived by the motto "Serve the Lord, Think Positive, and Stay Active."
Surviving are his wife, Jo Ann Oswald Caldwell; sons, Toney (Myrna) Caldwell of Charleston and Joel (Jackie) Caldwell of Leesville; daughters, Jill Miller of Gastonia, NC and Jane Caldwell of Ridge Spring; step-son, Marvin J. "Jenkie" (Cindy)
Oswald of Lexington; sister, Ellyn Guthrie of Gastonia, NC; grandchildren, Marvin Caughman "Marc" (Jennifer) Caldwell, Nicklaus Adam Caldwell, Josey Marie Caldwell, Jarad "Bull Head" (Katy) Watts, Jaraka Suzanne Rish, Scott (Vanessa) Harmon; great-grandchildren, Parker, Carson, Kaden "Fuzzy", Colin, Ashton, Noah, and Josiah; step-grandchildren, Julie Oswald and Derek (Ashley) Oswald; and his dog, Teddy Bear. He was predeceased by his first wife, Alice Zohab Caldwell.
