Lynwood Crout, 87, born May 30, 1933, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2020. He was the son of the late Charlie and Loucia Crout. Mr. Crout was predeceased by his wife, Doris Bouknight Crout; siblings, Gladys C. Bodie (late Buice), Pete Crout (Gwen), Jerry Crout (Ann), and Donnie Crout. Lyn is survived by his children, Dick Crout (Julie) of Slidell, LA, Kathy C. Whitaker (Jim) of Lexington, SC and Tim Crout (Blenda) of Lexington, SC; grandchildren, Tina Shariff (Shakeeb) of New Orleans, LA, Parker Crout (Kristen) of New Orleans, LA, Jack Crout (Lauren) of Evanston, IL, Audrey Whitaker (David Jennings) of Lexington, SC, Nicholas Crout (Whitney) of Charleston, SC, Mackenzi C. Ross of Simpsonville, SC; and great grandchildren, Quincy Shariff of New Orleans, LA, Brayden Rutherford and Dylan Whitaker of Lexington, SC, Maclaine Ross and Clark Ross of Simpsonville, SC.
Lyn graduated from Brookland Cayce High School in 1951 and was a member of the Bearcats Football Team. While still in high school, he met the love of his life Dot (Bouknight) Crout at a church function at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church.
After high school, Lyn worked with his father and brothers in the construction business and later formed Lyn’s Home Builders with his son Tim. While working with many clients in his business, Lyn made many of those clients life-long friends.
Although Lyn’s personality was not the type to overwhelm a room, he was truly a leader. As a member of Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church, Lyn taught Sunday School for adults and middle school children as well as worked with the youth group, hauling kids from place to place in his and Dot’s1965 station wagon. Lyn lead and served on numerous committees at Mt. Hermon as well as serving as President of the congregation multiple times.
While at Mt. Hermon, Lyn visited and took communion to the sick and shut-ins and after his retirement, he continued to serve by personally delivering copies of the worship service to them to keep them connected to their church family.
Lyn loved his family. He and Dot attended every extracurricular activity that their kids were involved in. They took time to invest in each of them.
Lyn will be missed by many. He was one of the most kind and caring people one could ever meet. His family mourns his loss, but celebrates his victory over death with his faith in Christ, something that he shared with everyone he met.
A Memorial Graveside Service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 25, 2020 at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church Food Pantry or Mt. Herman Lutheran Church Building or Holy Ground Fund at 3011 Leaphart Road, West Columbia, SC 29169.
