"Lucy" Ruth Evelyn Howard Martin

“Lucy” Ruth Evelyn Howard Martin walked through the gates of heaven on January 6, 2022. She was born on June 26, 1934 in Lancaster, SC to Luther and Pauline Player Howard.

She was married to the love of her life, Emery T. Martin in 1949. After his service in the U.S. Marine Corps, they settled into a lifelong ministry in the International Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was a faithful Pastor’s wife, serving alongside her husband in the ministry, filling any role that was needed. They went on to have two daughters, Deborah Annette Martin and Vickie Denise Martin.

“Miss Lucy” as she was affectionately known far and wide, also served on the Board of Falcon’s Children’s home in Falcon, N.C., on the S.C. Conference Board of Women’s Ministries, and thoroughly enjoyed organizing meals in the conference dining hall for many years. In 2002, she was ordained as a licensed minister of the S.C. Conference of the IPHC. She faithfully served as Visitation Pastor for her church, Life Springs Worship Center, until her retirement in 2015. After retirement, she continued to be an encourager of people, most of whom still quote many of her “Lucyisms.” She remained Honorary Pastor until her death. She loved her church and her Pastor, Rev. Allen Thompson, with a fierce devotion.

Mom/Granny was the biggest cheerleader of our family and loved us all with a passion. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Annette Martin and Vickie Martin Dybowski; son-in-law, Cas Dybowski; grandchildren, Amy Chavis Neeley, Tripp Stoudemire (Kerri), Tara Johns (Dustin), and Logan Caughman; great grands, Addison price, Tanner Price, Emery Price, Addison Giles and a new addition to arrive in July. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Rev. Emery T. Martin; parents, Luther and Pauline Howard; and brother, Gideon Howard (Margaret).

Miss Lucy was a good and faithful servant to all who knew her, her seat will never be filled, and she can never be replaced.

A viewing will be held 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a Homecoming Celebration to begin at 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Life Springs Worship Center located at 5630 Platt Springs Rd, Lexington, SC. Burial will follow at Mt. Beulah PH Church located at 2610 Ninety Six Rd, Neeses, SC. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family.
