Linda West Kirkland

Linda Kirkland, loving wife of Charles Kirkland, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the age of 81. Linda was born on New Year’s Day 1945, in Steadman, SC to Levi and Inez (Grice) Hartley, as the youngest of 8. Following her time at Batesburg-Leesville schools, she worked in a hosiery mill while completing beauty school and went on to work at area salons.

In 1961, she married Rudolph West, and the years that followed provided her with her pride and joy, her sons Ricky and Gregg. After Rudolph’s unexpected passing in 1978, Linda opened her own beauty salon by their home at the Saluda Traffic Circle.

In 1983 Linda’s heart filled again when she married Charles Kirkland. They shared over 40 beautiful years together…fun times spent on Lake Murray and at the local VFW Post 6740, and sweet quiet moments like watching the blue birds from their swing in the yard. Linda’s Beauty Shop, and Linda, were staples of the Circle and Hollywood community. Over the decades, countless women, men, kids (and eventually their kids and grandkids!) graced her chairs. Linda was a member of Corinth Lutheran Church. Linda had a love for Christ, her family, and cooking. While her family was small, her meals would make you think her boys were still in high school and she was feeding the whole football team. Gregg would often say “Mama, I’m not a growing boy anymore”!

Linda is survived by her husband, Charles Kirkland; sons, Ricky West, Gregg West (Lori); sister, Mary Clark; special niece Katelynn and her son Shep; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, and first husband, Linda was preceded in death by her siblings, Rachel Hembree, Donley Hartley, Doris Lewis, Barbara Snider, Sarah Cooper, and Marie Gunter.

Services will be private, and visitation will be held at a later date.
