I Love You More Today Than Yesterday, And I Will Love You More Tomorrow
Lillie Mae Hayes, age 99, peacefully passed away on October 14, 2020 at her home.
Lillie was born on September 8, 1921 in Saluda County, to parents Ernest and Alice Hallman. She lived a full life as a mother and grandmother and spent the majority of her career at Lexington Sportswear. She was active in her church and community. It suited her servant heart. She was a member of the Wise Old Owls, Womens’ Auxilliary, the Birthday Club, Gilbert Senior Center, Gilbert Park Development Committee/First Park Board of Directors, and the Peach Festival Committee. When she wasn’t busy with all of her outside activities, she lovingly crocheted potholders, kitchen towels, and blankets to give to family and friends. She traveled the world including the US, Europe, Greece, and Australia.
Most of all, she deeply loved her family. She is survived by her children: Barbara Reeder (John), Leslie Hayes (Linda), Steve Hayes (Debbie), and Patricia Chrisley (Randy); 18 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. She never failed to say, “Remember, I love you more today than I did yesterday, and I will love you more tomorrow” after every phone call. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, October 17, 2020 at First Baptist Church Gilbert. The family will receive friends from 10 – 11 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Gilbert, 441 Lewie St, Gilbert, SC 29054 or American Macular Degeneration Foundation, PO Box 515, Northampton MA 01061-0515. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel, is assisting the family.
The family thanks Nurse Liz of Pathway Hospice team, and her home care angels: Susan, Lori, Mary, Dale and Brenda, who helped make it possible to remain in her home.
