Leslie Dewey Hayes, age 76, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2021 at his home in Gilbert, SC.
He was born on August 5, 1944 in Charleston, SC to parents, Dewey and Lillie Mae (Hallman) Hayes. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda (Flowers) Hayes; daughter, Maribeth Hayes; sister, Barbara Reeder (John); brother, Steve Hayes (Debbie), & sister, Patricia Chrisley (Randy).
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, earning a National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Two Bronze Stars and a Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Following his return from Vietnam, he began his own residential construction business. He was happiest when he was hard at work building, and he even constructed their family home. He enjoyed spending time boating on Lake Murray and working on his boat. Later in life, after retiring from his construction company, he enjoyed making custom woodwork.
In his younger years, his love of music led him to play the guitar for a family band called the Citations. One of his favorite TV Shows was Austin City Limits, featuring live musical performances.
He will lovingly be remembered as a hard worker who took pride in providing for his family.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 31 at First Baptist Church, Gilbert.
