Leland "Curtis" Rickenbaker Obituary

Lexington-Leland “Curtis” Rickenbaker, Curtis was born in Cameron, SC, and grew up in Lone Star, SC. He graduated from Newberry College in 1957 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, where he met his beloved bride of 62 years, Evelyn Bohlen Rickenbaker. Curtis served his country in the South Carolina Army National Guard for 10 years, while also working for McKesson Corporation in sales. He later became a Columbia business owner for over 20 years before he retired in 1999. When he retired, Curtis enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, his St. Stephen’s and St. David’s friends. He loved golfing and was an active member of Midlands Senior Golf Association. Curtis never met a stranger and was loved and respected by all who knew him. 

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Bohlen Rickenbaker; son, Scott C. Rickenbaker (Brandi Daniels) of Cayce, SC; daughter, Allyson M. Rickenbaker of Lexington, SC; granddaughters, Lauren G. Marshall (Kristin) of Pelion, SC, and Katy B. Kyzer (Zak) of Irmo, SC; grandsons, Jayden S., Texas J., and Haze C. Rickenbaker of Cayce, SC; and brother, Kenneth T. Rickenbaker, of St. Matthews, SC.

Curtis is predeceased by his parents, George E. Rickenbaker and Minnie Lee Wiles Rickenbaker.

A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m.  Friday, July 23, 2021, at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, 119 North Church St, Lexington, SC, 29072 with Pastor Jason Antley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the burial in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church Freedom to Imagine Campaign (Building Fund); 119 N Church St, Lexington, SC, 29072, or to a charity of one’s choice. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family.
