Services for Lauvenia Corley Butts, 91, of West Columbia, SC, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church where she was a life-long member. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the Fellowship Hall. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church Food Pantry, 3011 Leaphart Road, West Columbia, SC 29169. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mrs. Butts passed away on July 12, 2026. Born May 16, 1935 in Columbia, SC, she was the daughter of the late Vivian and Artie Corley. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, David C. Butts, Jr.; an infant son; siblings, John Corley, Stan Corley, “Billie” Taylor and “Buddy” Corley.
Mrs. Butts attended Brookland Cayce High School and retired from Colonial Life in 1998. Vennie, as she was fondly known, enjoyed cooking, bowling, music and dancing. She spent many weekends dancing at Yellow Rock and Bill’s Pickin’ Parlor well into her 80s. She played Canasta with a group of friends for over sixty years and was an accomplished seamstress. She and her husband enjoyed camping and traveled extensively throughout the United States pulling along their beloved travel trailer.
Survivors include her children, David C. Butts III (Debra), Blenda Crout (Tim), and Bryan Butts; 4 grandchildren, Sandy Dawkins (Scot), Michelle Lester (John), Nicholas Crout (Whitney) and Mackenzi Ross; 7 great grandchildren; and siblings, Grace Shepherd, Carolyn Dunbar and Phyllis Shepard.
