Lexington, SC - God, in His mercy and grace, took Larry, 78, home on November 16, 2021. Larry passed just as he lived his life: quietly, peacefully and humbly.
He is survived by a daughter, Valerie Varner Porth (Toby); a son, Larry Cole Varner Jr. (Lorren); and eight beloved grandchildren, who were the joy of his life: Addie Grier, Yeats, Eva Claire, Hayden, Savannah, Hailey, Ellison and Molly. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Potts Varner; brother and sister, Dean and Donna Varner Taylor and parents, DeFoix and Marguerite Varner.
A graduate of Newberry College, Larry worked and served many years in the retail and funeral service industry. He enjoyed working with the public, as he had never met a stranger. He generally cared for any person whom he met along his path in life. He was a devoted and compassionate caregiver to his wife during her struggles with chronic illness. Larry was a loving father who consistently taught and led his family to love and serve God. He faced many illnesses and injuries over the years, and always met them with optimism, courage and faithfulness.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Sunday, November 21, 2021, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lexington, SC. Visitation with family and friends will take place one hour prior to the service in the church Sanctuary.
