A Memorial service for Kirk Vincent Van Laan, 63, will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. David Lutheran Church 132 St. David’s Church Rd. West Columbia, SC 29170 or Oliver Gospel Mission 1100 Taylor St. Columbia, SC 29201.
Mr. Van Laan passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2021. Born in Michigan, he was the son of the late Vincent V. and Althea Marie Noll Van Laan. He retired as an Inspector General at Housing and Urban Development.
Surviving include his wife, Rivon Matthews Van Laan; son, Matthew Vincent Van Laan (Emmie); step daughters, Heather Oswald and Carissa Ellison (Robbie); sisters, Arleen “Penny” Oberliesen and Letha “Letty” Cairns (George); step grandchildren, William Vacharasin (Janay), Zach Kanipe, Colton Ellison and Victoria Ellison.
He was predeceased by a brother, Mark Van Laan and sister, Marcia Miller.
