It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kay P. Stock, born on February 5, 1950, in Clinton, SC, and passed away on December 1, 2025, in Lexington, South Carolina.
Kay was a beloved wife, cherished daughter, and devoted friend to many. She was predeceased by her parents, Floyd and Pauline Boyce Poole; and her niece, Adrianne Ingram. She is survived by her loving husband, John M. Stock Jr.; her sisters, Janet Poole of Easley and Beverly Poole Ingram of Woodbridge, Virginia, as well as a sister-in-law, four nephews, two nieces and a pooch named, Maggie.
Before graduating from Clinton High School in 1970, Kay lived among a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. Family gatherings were frequent and remained so until recent years. Kay left Clinton to attend Winthrop College, where she earned an associates degree. After four years working as a librarian at Presbyterian College and Midlands Tech, she became a legal secretary, working for the Eleazer Law Firm for more than twenty years. Rhett Eleazer recalls her as being a joy to have in the office and a most client-focused person. He said he would sometimes wonder who she was laughing with on the phone, only to learn it was a client that Kay had connected with. After Mr. Eleazer’s retirement, Kay worked as a legal secretary for Rolf Baghdady, and then for more than ten years as an executive assistant with the South Carolina Budget and Control Board, Office of Insurance.
On August 9, 1981, she married her husband, John, in a ceremony on Lake Murray. Kay and John lived together by the lake, eventually settling in a home along the shore near Lexington. On the weekends they enjoyed boating and socializing, with occasional trips further afield to the mountains, Miami, or Hawaii.
Among the interests Kay and John shared was abiding love of and concern for animals. Not only their own pets, of which there were many cats and Shi-Tzu dogs, but also woodland creatures and neighborhood pets. Some of these animals doubtlessly had homes, but Kay and John fed them all.
When her mother began to show signs of dementia, Kay organized her affairs and managed her transition into assisted living and nursing care here in Lexington. She was a proud member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Columbia, where she demonstrated her faith and dedication to her community. Her life was marked by her unwavering commitment to her family, friends, and faith, and she will be deeply missed.
The burial for Kay will be held at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery, located at 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, South Carolina, 29229, on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 11:00 am. Following the burial, a funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church, located at 1715 Broad River Road, Columbia, South Carolina, 29210. Services are under the direction of Barr-Price Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel.
We invite you to share your memories and upload photos of Kay on her memorial page as a way to celebrate her life and the love she shared with those around her.
