Kay L. Flowers

Kay L. Flowers (née Quarles), 70, of Lexington, South Carolina, passed away in her home surrounded by her family on June 27, 2026. Kadi will be remembered for her deep care and commitment to her family, for her faith in God, for her sharp sense of humor, for her pure good nature, for her toughness, and for the way she brightened and strengthened the lives of all those privileged to know her.

Born in Portales, New Mexico, and raised in Barstow, California, Kadi attended Barstow Junior College and California Baptist College where she studied Education. While working at Richlen Jewelers in Riverside, California, in 1981, she met John Flowers when he made a delivery to the store. After their first date, Kadi told her roommate (later her brother’s wife) that she had found the man she would marry. Eight months later, Kadi and John were married on the California Baptist College campus. They soon started a family and raised two sons, Johnny and Jesse. In 1993, Kadi and her family moved to South Carolina where she would spend the rest of her life.

Kadi took joy and comfort in simple things. After retiring from the printing business in 2007, she was able to devote her full attention to her family and to her home. She enjoyed tending to her yard and garden, cooking for others, watching birds at the feeders and birdbaths, caring for pets and critters, traveling with her sisters-in-law, finding deals on gifts for loved ones, and watching sunrises at the beach. Each year for more than 20 years, Kadi’s very large extended family looked forward to the 4th of July party that she planned and hosted, to gathering around the pool, to her festive decorations, to the fireworks in the yard, and to large helpings of her fruit salad. When Kadi became a grandmother (“Munga”) in 2014, she began her most cherished role. She was a steady presence in her granddaughters’ lives, passing along her love for crafts, the zoo, the beach, and caring for others.

As a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Kadi is irreplaceable. We take heart in seeing her influence live on in all those she touched.

Kadi is survived by her devoted husband, John; her son, Johnny of Denver, Colorado; her son, Jesse, his wife Ro, and his two daughters and stepdaughter of Lexington; her brother, Steve Quarles of Huntsville, Missouri; her sister, Carol Kelley of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Floyd and Jeannie Quarles of Barstow, California; and by her brother, Mark Quarles of Loma Linda, California.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 3, at 12 PM at Abundant Life Assembly 105 Lincoln Street, West Columbia. Burial will follow at Abundant Life Assembly of God Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 AM to 12 PM prior to the service at the church. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
